Pen and ink with a watercolor finish is a specialty for Artist Bill Dougal. The style avoids tight renditions in favor of a sketch feel in the line work, and a loose watercolor wash. The result is a combination of the simplification and stylization of cartooning, with straight forward realism. The pictures are spirited and seem as though they were drawn on location in one sitting. The style is used for illustrations in The Glastonbury, Valley and West Hartford Books, published by Distinctive Directories in Connecticut. It is also used for house portraits that may be commissioned. Bill also uses it for his concept art.
